Early Life:
Gertz was raised in the Glenview suburb of Chicago, Illinois, where she was born. She attended public schools and earned her high school diploma from Maine East. She has two brothers, Michael and Scott, and her parents are Sharyn and Walter Gertz, a builder and contractor. Gertz, a Jew, was brought up in a Conservative Jewish home.
Career:
She attended New York University for drama after being spotted by Norman Lear in a nationwide talent search. Gertz and Andrew Dice Clay co-starred in an episode of Diff’rent Strokes when they were both young actors. She was also a regular cast member on The Facts of Life, where she played Blair’s best friend and classmate Boots St. Clair. Beginning with the romantic comedy Endless Love in 1981, Gertz went on to act in the TV sitcom Square Pegs in 1982 and 1983.
