Early Life and Education
In Fontana, California, on November 14, 1975, Travis Landon Barker was born. He was raised by his father Randy, a mechanic, mother Gloria, a babysitter, and two elder sisters. At age 4, Barker’s mother gave him a drum kit, and the following year, he started taking lessons. In junior high, Travis also studied the trumpet, picked up the piano, and temporarily joined a choir. Career
After finishing high school, Barker played in bands like Snot and Feeble. Then in 1996, he joined the Aquabats, a ska punk group started by his Feeble bandmate Chad Larson. He recorded an album with the Aquabats and later toured with Blink-182. When Blink-182’s drummer left, Barker took over in 1998. In 1999, Blink-182 released “Enema of the State,” their first album with Barker, and gained fame with hits like “All the Small Things.” Barker has made more albums with Blink-182, like “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket,” “Blink-182,” “Neighborhoods,” “California,” and “Nine.”
In 2002, Barker began performing with the Transplants, a rock/rap group formed by Tim Armstrong of Rancid. On September 19, 2008, tragedy struck as a private plane carrying Travis Barker, Adam Goldstein (also known as DJ AM), security guard Che Still, and personal assistant Chris Baker suffered a catastrophic crash and subsequent explosion during takeoff from Columbia Metropolitan Airport in Columbia, South Carolina.
